High-speed Level 2 installation (60 amp circuit)
For EVs with higher onboard charger capacity — some newer models accept up to 48 amps of AC charging. A 60-amp circuit with a 48-amp continuous draw delivers the maximum Level 2 charging speed most home systems can provide. Worth considering if you have a higher-capacity vehicle or want to future-proof the install.
Dual EV charger installs
An increasingly common request across Chandler, Gilbert, and North Scottsdale as dual-EV households become the norm. Two Level 2 circuits from the panel — one for each car. We assess panel capacity for both chargers together before quoting, since two 50-amp circuits add 100 amps of potential load that may require a panel upgrade or load management solution.
Outdoor / covered patio / carport installs
Not all EV charging happens in a garage. We install outdoor-rated EVSE units in covered carports, on exterior walls, and in driveway locations. Outdoor installs use weatherproof conduit and outdoor-rated enclosures. Wire routing from the panel to an outdoor location adds run length that may affect wire gauge requirements — we calculate this properly rather than defaulting to minimum gauge.
An important note on the 80% rule
EV charging is classified as a continuous load under the National Electrical Code — it runs at full draw for hours at a time. NEC requires continuous loads to be derated to 80% of the circuit's rated capacity. This means a 50-amp circuit delivers a maximum 40-amp continuous charge, and a 60-amp circuit delivers a maximum 48-amp continuous charge. We size every circuit correctly for the charger you're installing and explain this before the quote.
What We Check Before Every Install
We don't just run wire and mount a charger. Every EV charger install starts with a panel assessment:
1. Available capacity
We check your panel's current load against the available breaker slots and service capacity. A 200-amp panel with 175 amps of existing load doesn't have enough capacity for a new 50-amp circuit without something being removed or service being upgraded. We tell you this before quoting the charger, not after the conduit is already run.
2. Panel location relative to the charger location
The distance from your panel to where the charger will be mounted affects wire gauge requirements (voltage drop over longer runs) and routing complexity. A panel on the opposite side of the house from the garage adds conduit length and may require running through walls, attic, or exterior. We walk the route before quoting.
3. Existing garage wiring
Some garages have a pre-installed conduit stub or a 240V outlet already roughed in. If so, the install is simpler and faster. If not, we route conduit cleanly and professionally — no surface-mounted wire runs hanging from the ceiling.
4. HOA equipment placement standards
Many East Valley communities have HOA guidelines about conduit visibility, charger mounting locations, and exterior wall penetrations. We know the most common HOA standards in our service area and design the install to comply before the first hole is drilled.

Both major Phoenix Valley utilities have programs that make Level 2 installation more affordable and reduce ongoing charging costs:
SRP (Salt River Project)
SRP customers are eligible for a $250 rebate on a qualifying Level 2 smart charger purchased through the SRP Marketplace. Federal 30C Tax Credit
The federal Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property Credit (30C) under the Inflation Reduction Act covers 30% of the cost of EV charging equipment and installation, up to $1,000 for residential installations. This applies to the equipment and labor — confirm current eligibility with your tax advisor, as the credit has specific requirements around qualified locations and timing.
Permits — Required, Included, Handled
Every Maricopa County jurisdiction requires a permit for a 40-amp or higher branch circuit. Scottsdale, Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert, and Chandler each have their own permit fees — typically $85 to $220 depending on the municipality.
We pull the permit. You don't need to call the city, submit paperwork, or schedule an inspection separately. The permit is included in our scope, the inspection is coordinated and met by our electrician, and you receive permit documentation when the job is complete.
Work done without a permit on an EV charger circuit creates risk at resale (permit records are public), may affect homeowner's insurance coverage on an electrical incident, and skips the inspection that confirms the installation was done correctly. We don't offer unpermitted work as an option regardless of how the request is framed.
The Panel Upgrade Conversation
Most EV charger install calls in the Valley go smoothly without a panel upgrade. But some don't — and the right answer on those jobs is to tell you before the charger goes in, not after.
When you likely don't need a panel upgrade
- Your panel is 200-amp service with multiple open slots
- You're in a home built after 1990 with a modern panel in good condition
- Your existing loads (AC, water heater, appliances) don't already push the panel near capacity
When a panel upgrade is worth discussing
