Converting from a tank to tankless is more than a swap. Gas units typically need a larger gas line and a new stainless or PVC venting path; electric whole-home units usually need substantial service capacity and often a panel upgrade. Those two items are what move the number, and they're specific to your house. We quote flat-rate after inspecting the gas line, the vent route, and the panel — never sight-unseen over the phone.
Do I need to descale a tankless unit here?
Yes, annually, and it is not optional in this valley. Phoenix-area water deposits scale on the heat exchanger, which raises firing temperature, reduces flow, throws error codes, and eventually kills the exchanger. Manufacturers require documented descaling to keep the warranty valid. A whole-home water softener dramatically slows the process and is the single best thing you can do to protect a tankless investment.
Will I get instant hot water?
No — tankless means endless, not instant. The unit fires when flow starts, so there's still the same wait for hot water to travel the pipe from the heater to the fixture, plus a couple of seconds for ignition. If instant is the goal, that's a recirculation pump, which we can install with either a tank or a tankless unit.
Can a tankless unit run two showers at once?
A correctly sized one can. Capacity is expressed in gallons per minute at a given temperature rise. In Arizona our incoming water is relatively warm, which works in your favor — the required rise is smaller than in cold climates, so a given unit delivers more usable GPM here.
